How Boris is delivering for Haringey

London is more than just the City and its famous landmarks. More than its museums, theatres, palaces, taxis and red buses. It is home to some 8 million people. You live, work and socialise across London’s 32 boroughs – you make them tick. You give Haringey’s neighbourhoods, from Highgate to Tottenham Hale, their unique identity. It is these distinct areas that make our great capital such a rich and diverse city. Unlike the previous Mayor, I’m working to give all your boroughs - not just Zones 1-3 - my attention. From Hillingdon to Havering, Barnet to Bromley, Richmond to Redbridge, I am your Mayor.
Since being elected in May 2008 I have worked hard to deliver for Haringey:
Cost of Living and Value for Money
-
Frozen City Hall’s share of your council tax for the last three years, following 153% rise under my predecessor, helping keep down the cost of living for 97,839 borough households
-
Scrapped Ken Livingstone’s plans for a £25 congestion charge for family cars
Tackling Congestion
-
Cut potential delays on some of Haringey’s busiest roads by introducing the permit scheme – this has meant 28% of applications by utility firms to dig up roads in Haringey have been refused
-
Reviewed the timings of 49 traffic lights to reduce congestion in Haringey
-
TfL has invested £760,000 improving miles of roads in the borough
Improving your Commute
-
Two Underground stations have been upgraded in the borough – Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale
-
After years of neglect and waste under Labour’s part-privatisation scheme, commuters on the Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines will see improvements to services under the Tube upgrade programme secured by Boris Johnson
-
Thousands of Haringey residents benefitting from London first orbital railway - the London Overground – with Crouch Hill, Haringey Green Lanes, and South Tottenham stations accessible by residents in the borough.
-
13 bus routes have been expanded and/or improved in Haringey
Driving down Crime
-
10 more police officers, 14 more PCSOs and 28 more Special Constables are on Haringey’s streets; and the introduction of single patrolling has led to 4,876 more patrols annually in the borough
-
And there's been a 25.3% drop in youth violence since I took office
-
Crime has fallen 18.6%, with a 35.7% drop in robberies and a fall in bus crime of 44.2% since my predecessor's time in office
Kick-Starting the Cycle Revolution
-
Haringey has received £25,000 in funding from the Mayor to get more borough residents on bicycles and promote safe cycling
-
Cycle Superhighways 1 will run through the borough from Tottenham to central London
-
Cycle Superhighway 12 will run through the borough from Muswell Hill to Angel
Quality of Life
-
Lordship Recreation Ground in Haringey has received £400,000 as part of the Mayor’s £6m fund to improve the quality and safety of London’s parks
-
Planted 550 street trees in Haringey after cancelling Ken Livingstone’s propaganda sheet The Londoner
-
Created 75 green spaces for Haringey residents to grow their own food
Beating the Recession
-
Muswell Hill and Greenlanes received £99,233 and £99,400 respectively as part of the Mayor’s £50m Outer London Fund to support and revitalise the capital’s high streets
