Local celebrity Historian and Community Campaigner defects to Tottenham Conservatives 15/07/09

Hot off the heals of former Mayor councillor Alan Dobbie joining Haringey Conservative from Labour, local Tories say that they are delighted to have signed up another ex-Labour Party member in local celebrity Historian and community campaigner, Janet Harris of Bruce Grove.

Janet was a founder of the Tottenham Civic Society, Author of the “Tottenham Outrage” and campaigns for those on the autistic spectrum. She is the legally named lead person who supports the action by Ward's Corner Community Coalition against Haringey Council and developer Grainger, who seek to demolish historic Ward’s Corner in south Tottenham. She is currently awaiting the outcome of the Judicial Review into this matter, which took place in June, in the Royal Courts of Justice.

Janet Harris, who was in the Tottenham Labour Party, has thrown her weight behind Conservative candidate Sean Sullivan in his bid to unseat MP David Lammy. In a statement, Ms Harris explained:

“I am delighted to be joining councillor Alan Dobbie in the Blue corner. For far too long Labour has been running and ruining Haringey, whilst David Lammy twiddles his thumbs. Britain, Haringey and Tottenham deserve better. I have no hesitation in supporting Sean Sullivan who is a real champion for Tottenham’s interests. I urge former comrades to have the courage to change and vote Conservative at the next elections.”

Welcoming Janet into the fold, Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, said: "Janet Harris has been around for a very long time and is a celebrated local Historian and community campaigner. We are delighted that she is supporting Sean Sullivan. Today's Conservative party is a progressive one, and open to all"
