Hinchcliffe issues letter to put Lammy and Labour straight on Lorship Rec funding 09/03/09

Dear Sir,

I am delighted that one of our local parks, Lordship Rec, has been awarded £400,000. This new money will be spent on restoring the River Moselle to an open river (it is currently in a concrete pipe!), on a new city farm, play area and cafe, wildflower meadows and restoring the park's historical features. Both our MP David Lammy and his Labour Council have "welcomed" this news and given the impression that they are somehow responsible for these exciting plans. We should instead thank the Conservative Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. The Mayor believes parks and open spaces are key to the capital’s quality of life, and has invested £6 million in improving the quality and safety of London's parks, funded from efficiency savings from the previous administration’s publicity budget. This flagship and popular Conservative policy was met by fierce opposition from David Lammy and his Labour colleagues on the London Assembly. Just thought I'd clear that one up!

Yours faithfully,

Justin Hinchcliffe
