Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) - was "one big con" say Haringey Conservatives

Council tenants from across Haringey are furious that having voted, by a small majority, for the ALMO that key pledges have not been met. Tenants were promised new kitchens and bathrooms if they voted 'Yes' and were told that no new government money would be given to Haringey to pay for these if they voted 'No'.

Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, said he has spoken to scores of people who felt "let down and conned" by Labour-run Haringey. Explained Justin, "The Council spent a fortune on PR to get the result they wanted in the ALMO ballot. Many Haringey tenants have the same kitchens and bathrooms for over five decades and they badly need replacing. People voted 'Yes' because they were desperate to see their homes modernised as promised in the deluge of propaganda from the council's PR department. People rightly feel let down by Labour. The ALMO was one big con".

Haringey Conservatives now want to government to investigate why the majority of council tenants are still waiting, two years after the vote took place, for vital home improvements.
