London elections show 'real progress' for Conservatives in Haringey 03/05/08

Haringey Conservatives say that Thursday’s elections showed that they were making ‘real progress locally’.

In the hotly contested Enfield and Haringey GLA seat, the Conservative vote was up by a massive 58 per cent (from 32,381 in 2004 to 51,263 this time round).  The Conservatives only failed to take the seat from Labour by the narrowest of margins.

Nicola Bates Deputy Chairman of Hornsey & Wood Green Conservatives commented:

‘We are making real progress locally.  It’s a great shame that Matthew Laban, our candidate, so narrowly missed out on winning the seat for the Conservatives.  He was a great candidate – our vote was up by a massive 58 per cent.

‘Looking ahead, having Boris Johnson elected as London Mayor is a great opportunity for us to show the real change for the better that Conservatives can make in power.’
