Commenting on the news that the Labour-run Haringey allowed twenty thousand confidential files, containing local residents' bank details and other such confidential information, to be dumped in an unused Council building in Crouch End which was occupied by squatters, Justin Hinchcliffe, of Haringey Conservatives, said:
"This is possibly a matter for the Data Protection Commissioner - Labour Haringey may have fallen foul of the law. We will be asking them to look into the matter as a matter of urgency. We also want to see an independent investigation carried out. Meanwhile, the Council should write to everyone affected by this blunder so that they can alert their banks. Labour cannot be trusted to keep our personal details safe and secure. This is surely yet another nail in the coffin of their ID card plans." The story broke in todays Sun newspaper. ENDS.
