Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, has today slammed Haringey Council for wasting electricity by keeping Christmas lights on across the borough – three days after they should, by tradition, have been taken down.
Justin commented: “Haringey likes to see itself as a green borough. Nothing could be further from the truth. Lights burn throughout the night at their offices, especially at Wood Green, and now they are happy to keep the Christmas lights on despite Christmas having ended. This isn’t just bad news for the Planet but a waste of taxpayers’ cash. Labour-Haringey seems to have as ‘do as we say, not as we do’ policy when it comes to the environment.”
Christmas lights are up in Crouch End Broadway, Tottenham High Road, Turnpike Lane and Wood Green High Road at the time of going to press – Tuesday, 08 January 2008.
