Commenting on the announcement today that Cllr Catherine Harris has defected from the Lib Dem group on Haringey council to Labour, Toby Boutle, of Haringey Conservatives, said:
"We have known for some time now that the Lib Dems are running out of steam locally. The situation must be dire for the Lib Dem group for one their left-wing councillors to be prepared to defect to Haringey Labour – a party which has made such a mess of running our Borough.
"Just as Labour are failing Haringey in power, so too the Lib Dems are failing as an opposition. With the Lib Dems imploding, Haringey needs now more than ever a strong, principled Conservative voice on the Council.
"We are winning over hundreds of disgruntled ex-Lib Dem supporters across the Borough. As their local party implodes, we would welcome any sensible, reform-minded Lib Dems to join the Conservatives – the only Party offering real change in Haringey".
