Tottenham Conservatives call on Mayor to expand Victoria Line to Northumberland Park to help safeguard Spur's future 20/10/07

Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives and a Spurs fan, today called on Mayor Livingstone to extend the Victoria Line to Northumberland Park. The idea, first mooted a decade ago, would help to safeguard the future of Tottenham Hotspur at an uncertain time for the club  -  Spurs is rumoured to be looking at the possibility of moving out the borough.  Such a line extension would also be a major boon to the Northumberland Park area, helping to regenerate a ward which has the worst indicators for poverty and deprivation of anywhere in London.

Justin Hinchcliffe  said : "Not only is Spurs a much-loved local club, it's a major employer in the area. Spurs may stay if their fans can easily get to the stadium on match days. Conservatives have already called on One, the train operator, to increase its services on match days. Today, we're calling on Mayor Livingstone to give the green light to expand the Victoria Line to Northumberland Park, which Spurs and local residents would really welcome. Haringey Council should be doing all in its powers to help keep Spurs a Tottenham-based Club. Sadly, they do not seem to appreciate the seriousness of the situation".
