Cllr. Matthew Laban demands action to make Seven Sisters safer 21/08/07

Residents living off Seven Sisters Road, in South Tottenham, have contacted local Conservatives to express their regret that prostitutes have once again returned to the area.

Female residents have been stopped by curb-crawlers and asked for their ‘prices’ on their way home from work, sex workers have been stealing from local shops and they are leaving used condoms in people’s gardens.

Matthew Laban, the Conservatives’ Greater London Assembly candidate for Haringey has been campaigning in the area. Commented Matthew: “I am grateful that residents have been in touch with me as their prospective GLA member. This problem isn’t new – it’s been going on for ages. When the prostitutes are not in the area, they’re over the border in Hackney. The two boroughs use them as tennis balls. Many of the girls are addicted to alcohol and drugs. Many of them have children, too. I want the authorities to provide them with professional help. I also want their pimps and ‘clients’ brought to book. I’ve written to Haringey’s Borough Commander to request action.  I await his response with interest”.

ENDs.
