Haringey Conservatives are backing the campaign to save the Waterstones bookshop in Wood Green.
Justin Hinchcliffe said: The proposed closure will be a blow not just to residents in Wood Green, but residents of Tottenham, too, who also rely on this bookshop. Rather than closing the Wood Green branch, Waterstones should be opening an extra branch in Tottenham! David Lammy, the so-called 'Minister for Culture ' hasn't got a single bookshop in his constituency perhaps someone should tell him that Culture begins at home? Its terrible that at a time when library budgets are being slashed and education is being dumbed down, were set to lose this much-loved local resource. We urge Waterstones to review their decision and keep the branch open for literacys sake!
Residents can go to http://www.PetitionOnline.com/Bookshop to sign a petition calling for the store to be kept open. So far, almost 700 local people have supported the campaign.
