Local Conservatives comments on Haringey's latest budget 20/02/07

Speaking immediately after Monday's Full Council meeting, at which the annual budget was set, Justin Hinchcliffe, of Haringey Conservatives, said:

"Haringey's Band D residents are now paying £449 (46%) more in Council Tax since 2002. Gordon Brown, Mayor Livingstone and the Haringey's Labour councillors have hit us all were it hurts - in our wallets. Local people have had enough of Labour's policy of tax, spend and waste.

Haringey's official opposition, its Lib Dem councillors, once again failed in their duty to local people by not putting forward alternative, more sensible proposals. Conservatives would have recommended scrapping "Haringey People" and cutting out waste and inefficiency across all departments. Local residents know that the Conservatives are the only effective opposition to Labour in Haringey".
