A local Conservative campaigner is calling on Haringey's nightclubs to adopt the latest security technology to prevent crimes, as in neighbouring Camden. This is following press coverage of Camden's nightclubs bringing in new tiny, head mounted cameras to curb troublemakers.
So far four clubs in Camden have approached the Police about adopting this headgear (costing between £1,500 and £1,800 per set) to help security staff record incidents as well follow individuals under suspicion. Each camera can record up to 400 hours of footage.
Justin Hinchcliffe, 25, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, commented:
"Recently Haringey has had a spate of tragic incidents in and around the Borough's nightclubs - from Muswell Hill Broadway to Tottenham High Road. When people are out clubbing for the night, they should be able to enjoy themselves without having to worry about muggings or worse. People under 30 are being racked by large student loans, expensive living costs across Haringey and demanding jobs: we all should be able to live and relax in safety.
"Hopefully if the local nightclubs adopt these and other new security measures, it will mean that more crimes are prevented, and those that cannot be prevented will result in more successful prosecutions.
"The last thing I want to think about on my way out to U-Wish or the Opera House is the threat of violence, but in Haringey you do have to worry about it. "
