Local Conservatives have given their reaction to comments from Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, that residents in Haringey are now happy to leave their front doors open and unlocked.
Nicola Bates, of Haringey Conservatives, said:
"Sir Ian Blairs outlandish claims make it hard to imagine that he has been anywhere near a tower block in Haringey, if he is suggesting that residents are so foolish as to leave open the doors to their homes.
"We want real policing. He needs to focus on bringing down the 54 burglaries that happen in Haringey every week - and which cause real misery for local residents. His comments are not only insensitive to victims of crime, but also detract from the crime-prevention message."
