Council told to instruct Accord to collect the rubbish of the vulnerable 16/02/06

The domestic rubbish of many disabled, elderly and infirm Haringey residents is not being collected by Accord, the Council’s refuse contractor, claim local Conservatives.

If residents are too weak or disabled to physically push their wheelie bins onto the pavement, Accord will not empty them.

Justin Hinchcliffe, Conservative candidate for White Hart Lane in May’s Council elections, said: “I recently met an elderly lady in Warkworth Road, N17, who was recovering after being hospitalised. On her return, she found that her rubbish bin had not been emptied – three week’s after she was admitted to hospital!

“I also discovered that Accord staff will not wheel out the wheelie bins from gardens if residents are unable to do so.”

Eric Lattimore, also a Conservative candidate in While Hart Lane, adds: “Labour-run Haringey will soon have the 3rd highest Council Tax rate anywhere in London, yet some residents are not getting their bins emptied by the dustmen. The Council and Accord need to get together to find a solution to this unsatisfactory situation many residents are stuck in.”
