Local Conservatives have criticised their Liberal Democrat opponents for 'politicking on the rates' following the posting on the Haringey Council web site of a job vacancy for a political assistant to the Group whose duties will include "writing newsletters".
Pointing out that the Lib-Dem Group on the Council is only 16-strong and hardly needs a newsletter to keep Group Members informed, Conservatives say the duties of the post seem to include writing copy for Lib-Dem "Focus" newsletters or for Party members which are nakedly party-political and whose production costs should not be subsidised by Council taxpayers.
Commenting on the job advert, Conservative spokesman Peter Forrest said:
"This smacks of 'politicking on the rates'. The Group meets regularly and hardly needs a newsletter to keep its councillors informed.
Writing "Focus" newsletters for the Lib-Dems should not be undertaken by Council officials nor the costs subsidised by Council taxpayers".
