Tottenham Conservatives back David Cameron to be Leader 24/10/05

Senior local Conservatives have thrown their weight behind David Cameron in his bid to become Leader of the Conservative Party. The contest is between Mr. Cameron, the MP for Witney in Oxon, and David Davis, MP for Haltemprice and Howden, Yorks.

Those local Conservatives who back David Cameron include David Allen, Deputy Chairman of the Hornsey and Wood Green Conservative Association, Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman, Tom Mason, Deputy Chairman, Eyvind Andresen, Secretary, James Orpin, Treasurer, and Ada Gang-Devi, Chairman of the Women's Committee, from Tottenham Conservatives. Other members are expected to back David over the next few days.

Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, said:  "David knows that we have to change to win. There are those go into politics to boss people around - Tony Blair and the Labour Party - and those who entered to set people free - David Cameron and the Conservatives. For far too long we have watched former Conservative voters switch to Labour and, more recently, the Liberal Democrats. David has popular appeal amongst the swing voters and this can only translate into more votes and seats in Haringey".

There are over 600 registered Conservative members across Haringey and they will be receiving their ballot papers in two weeks time.
