Conservatives call for urgent statement on staffing at Apex House 14/06/05

Tottenham Conservatives are today demanding a full statement from Councillor Isidoros Diakides, the Lead Member for Housing, regarding “concerns” about staff at the council’s Apex House.

According to official minutes of the North Tottenham Area Housing Forum, Cllr John Bevan (Lab, Northumberland Park) expressed concerns about the “conduct and capability” of staff at the Customer Service Centre at Apex House.

It was noted that services at the North Tottenham Customer Service Centre were excellent, but the disparity with Apex House is “shocking” and that officers need adequate training to be “more courteous” to residents.  Concerns were also raised about staff in Homelessness Services.

Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, said:

“The allegations made against staff at Apex House are serious. We want to know what Cllr. Bevan meant when he expressed concerns about the conduct and capability of the Centre’s staff.  One can only conclude that staff are rude to residents or incompetent – or both. Haringey should stop being so secretive and the Lead Member for Housing needs to make an urgent statement.

We also call on the Council to use ‘mystery shoppers’ to weed out bad staff. All big organisations use mystery shoppers and it’s a scandal that the Labour-run Council has been so slack about the way its staff treat residents”.
