Spurs CPZ 'consultation' flawed say local Conservatives 25/03/05

Tottenham Conservatives today accused Haringey Council of both complacency
and greed over its proposed 'match day CPZ' in the area surrounding the
Spurs ground at White Hart Lane.

Conservatives highlight that the Council will accept consultation responses
without respondent names, opening up the consultation exercise to
manipulation from multiple bogus responses. They have also criticised the
Council plan to charge businesses for match day permits and to limit the
number of permits issued to local businesses to "essential users" when the
aim of the scheme is to control parking by fans, not by local businesses.

Commenting on the match day CPZ plan, Justin Hinchcliffe, Chairman of
Tottenham Conservatives, said:

"I am concerned that the consultation process is flawed as, without
respondents having to give their names, it would be easy to manipulate the
number of responses in order to distort the outcome.

This plan aims to deter parking by fans on match days. There can, therefore,
be no justification for charging local businesses for permits or curtailing
the availability of business permits to 'essential users' when they are not
the cause of parking stress. The Council seems determined to drive
businesses out of Tottenham, an area which already has one of the highest
unemployment rates in the country."
