Peter Lilley, hugely successful Secretary of State for Social Security under both Margaret Thatcher and John Major, wowed the Tory faithful at a well-attended meeting in Tottenham last night. Mr Lilley spoke at length about Labour's failed experiment with 'taxing & spending' on failing public
services and about Labour's self-inflicted crisis on pensions.
Mr Lilley, who himself contested the Tottenham seat more than 30 years ago in 1974, came to throw his weight behind William MacDougall, the highly respected Tory candidate for the Tottenham constituency in the looming General Election.
Mr Lilley was one of Mr MacDoougall's sponsors when he applied to join the Conservatives' candidates' list.
