William MacDougall, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Tottenham, has called for a safety review of the level crossing in Northumberland Park following last Saturday's fatal train derailment at a level crossing in Berkshire.
William MacDougall said:
"The Northumberland Park level crossing is on a high-speed line which, for instance, carries the Stansted Express. What happened in Berkshire could easily happen here in Tottenham. I want Network Rail to review all level crossings to minimise the risk of track sabotage or suicide attacks. Whether you keep level crossings or not, we know that the technology exists to give train drivers
advance warning of blockages on the track. Lessons must be learnt if we are to avoid further derailments and the complete loss of confidence amongst the travelling public."
