Historic open invitation to meet Peter Tatchell - all welcome 27/10/04

Dear Friend,

Some of you may be aware that we now invite non-Conservatives to address us, state their case, defend their case and take questions from the floor. This exercise is designed to enhance and encourage intellectual debate within the Party.

And, by listening to people not identified with our Party, it proves that we are not just interested in the views of our "core" supporters. Michael Howard wants the Conservative Party to be a Party for all Britons and the Tottenham Association is committed to helping him in that task.

A week on Thursday (4th November), we are honoured to have Peter Tatchell, a human rights campaigner, address our membership. Peter first hit the headlines in the early eighties as the Labour candidate in Southwark and Bermondsey by-election - viewed as one of the nastiest-fought campaigns in British history! The LibDems portrayed Peter as a gay and left-wing extremist and captured the seat (Simon Hughes). Peter has also been active in campaigning for equality within the Church of England. He won wide-spread praise for trying to carry out a "citizen's arrest" on Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe for "Genocide" and, more recently, opposing Mayor Livingstone's disgraceful decision to invite a Jew-hating, gay-hating and women-oppressing 'Cleric' to London's City Hall.

For more information on this exciting event, call me on my mobile. We hope you'll be able to join us. This is, to my knowledge, the first time ever Peter has address a Conservative audience!

All welcome.

Best wishes,

Justin Hinchcliffe
