The first Haringey Council dispersal order has been obtained in response to a Tory campaign for action against Anti-social behaviour in Moorfield Road, behind Bruce Grove station, Tottenham.
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate William MacDougall called for action last May, in response to residents' complaints about the high level of noise and public disorder in the road. MacDougall explained "At the May 4 Bruce Grove Residents' meeting I was shocked to hear about the problems on the street, and about the Council's pathetically weak response. We called for action, and I am pleased to see that an anti-social order has now been obtained in response. No group - of whatever ethnic background - should be regularly drinking and urinating on a public pavement."
The dispersal order means the police will be able to move on groups of two or more and arrest those who resist. They will also be able to escort any minor to their home address if they are in the area after 9pm and extra patrols will be on the look out for troublemakers.
The dispersal order will start on Monday, July 26.
