William MacDougall, the Conservatives' Parliamentary candidate for Tottenham, has warned that bus fares are set to rocket in the next year.
William MacDougall said:
"We know that there is a major ticket review underway and that can only mean fare increases. Mayor Livingstone has priced motorists off the road, but instead of making public transport more affordable and attractive generally, he has hiked the price of a daily Travelcard up to £4.70, scrapped the seventy pence fare and introduced a flat-rate of £1 for bus journeys. Even worse, he is now planning further fare hikes for Tottenham passengers. These fare increases will hit those least able to afford them. Although prices have shot up, public transport has remained the same: poor."
Although no figures have yet been mentioned, £1.50 or £2 fares are thought to be likely.
