MacDougall calls for action to deal with Labour's fat rats 08/07/04

William MacDougall urges action over Labour's rat shame

While Tottenham Labour Party has stayed silent over the shocking revelations about the number of rats living off uncollected rubbish in Tottenham, William MacDougall for the Conservatives has put forward a point plan of action to tackle the problem:

- Scrap the £15 charge for unwanted items.

- Haringey Council should be made to pay compensation to residents if their rubbish is not collected on time.

- The Government should increase the fines for litter and flytipping.

- The Council should make more serious efforts to track down flytippers and prosecute them and should keep a watch especially around food outlets for littering offences.

- Water and sewerage companies should be made more accountable for rat infestations in sewers.

- The Labour Government’s plans to charge people more for rubbish collection should be strongly opposed.

William said:

“This is a very serious issue, yet amazingly the Conservatives are the only party talking about this problem which is being raised on every doorstep. Ratepayers want action.

"Rats the size of kittens can be seen across Tottenham in broad daylight.  Only the rats seem to have benefited from Labour’s neglect of Tottenham”.
