MacDougall leads call for public loos to be re-opened for public use 22/05/04

Too many Tottenham toilets are closed, and should be re-opened as soon as possible, or, failing that, sold off, according to William MacDougall, the Conservatives' Parliamentary candidate for Tottenham.

The toilets at Turnpike Lane tube station have not been opened despite having been refurbished at taxpayers' expense. West Green Life, the Haringey Council-sponsored magazine for the area, told residents that they would be re-opened to the public in April.  Now, a month on, they are still closed.

William MacDougall said: "The toilets at Turnpike Lane need to be re-opened as soon as possible. It's a disgrace they have been closed for over four years. Turnpike Lane is an extremely busy station, so I will be asking Haringey why the planned opening has been delayed and why the Labour
Council is so bad at keeping toilets open generally. Labour is good at flushing money away, but not on toilet provisions."

Meanwhile, Lydia Rivlin, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, has also called for the derelict block of loos at High Cross to be re-opened or sold off. Conservative-led calls for the Victorian toilets in Bruce Grove to be put to public use has gained some support from members of other parties including Bruce Grove's Labour Councillor Herbie Brown and Noel Lynch of the Green Party.
