Top Tory calls for an end to Northern Cyprus boycott 09/05/04

William MacDougall, the Conservative's new Parliamentary candidate for Tottenham, has called for an end to the EU boycott of Northern Cyprus, at a meeting of the Turkish Conservative
Association in Green Lanes.  In the vote at the end of April, the predominantly Turkish North voted in favour of the EU/UN approved reunification plan, but it was defeated in the largely Greek South.

Speaking from Green Lanes, Mr MacDougall said:

"Of course we must respect the vote in the South, but the people of the North should not be made to suffer unduly as a result. There can no longer be a case for the continued isolation of the North given that they are no longer blocking a settlement.  And we must all hope that there will be another opportunity for the peaceful reunification of the Island."

ENDS.
