Former Labour MEP elected President of Tottenham Conservatives 03/04/04

Tottenham Conservatives elected Richard Balfe MEP as its new Association President last week.  Balfe was Labour's longest serving Member of the European Parliament when he moved from Labour to the Tories two years ago.  He is standing for the Conservatives in the June 10 European elections.

Richard Balfe said:

"Tottenham is a part of London which suffers doubly--not only from the effects of this Labour government's incompetent law-making and social policies, but also from the Labour Council's incompetent handling of its own resources.  I urge those who have supported Labour in the past to join me in supporting the Conservatives."

Balfe joins a Tottenham team which includes Lydia Rivlin - Chairman, Ada Gang Devi - Patron, Justin Hinchcliffe and Matt Clare - Deputy Chairmen, and newly selected Parliamentary Candidate William MacDougall.

"We were delighted when Richard Balfe consented to take on the job," said Lydia Rivlin.  "The same factors which led him to switch from Labour, are leading others in Tottenham to understand that things can only improve here under the Conservatives."
