Press Release: Veteran Conservative Councillor to Challenge "Blairite" Lammy

Tottenham Conservatives have chosen William MacDougall, a local resident and campaigner, as their Parliamentary Candidate to challenge David Lammy, MP.  An economist and pensions consultant, who was a leading Haringey Councillor until he stood down at the 2002 election, MacDougall has lived in Haringey for nearly ten years, and London for over twenty.

MacDougall said:

"Lammy is the ultimate Blair yes-man, who supported Tony Blair on Tuition Fees, Foundation Hospitals and the Iraq War.  He ignores the interests of Tottenham.  As a local Councillor I worked hard to improve Tottenham.  I campaigned on issues such as Labour

cuts to social services and libraries, the Victoria Climbie tragedy, transport policies that hurt bus and car users alike, and Labour's dreadful education system."

The newly elected President of the Tottenham Conservatives, Richard Balfe MEP, said:

"William MacDougall is one of the few who has been effective in calling the incompetent Labour run Council to account and I am very happy to give him and the Tottenham Association my support and help in their work."

Lydia Rivlin, Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, added:

"We couldn't have a better candidate than William.  He has a long record of experience in Haringey and we all support him.  More importantly, by the time the elections come round, so will the voters of Tottenham."
