White Hart Lane residents demand better services from Labour-run Council 29/03/04

White Hart Lane residents demanded better service from Haringey Council at a Conservative-sponsored meeting on Saturday, 28th February.

Lydia Rivlin -- Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives -- said:

"It is a symptom of how bad things are that we talked for two hours and there wasn't even time to get to the topic of school standards, which is another big issue in this area."

William MacDougall, Deputy Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, said:

"Residents rightly demand action against crime, youth gangs, dumped cars and rubbish.  You do not need signs to tell you where Haringey's borders are, you just look where the rubbish and broken pavements end, and the healthy trees and grass begin."

A White Hart Lane resident agreed,  "I walk my dog to the Enfield border and the difference is impossible to miss," he said.

Charles Adje, one of the White Hart Lane councillors, also attended the meeting.

"Although it was a political meeting held by the Conservatives," said Lydia,  "our primary purpose was to improve things for the people.  We invited all three councillors and are very grateful to Charles for participating.  He was very co-operative and made notes which he can now take back to the Council for discussion.  I am glad that since our last meeting the Council have started up a community policing project.  However, five officers are not enough for a huge area the size of White Hart Lane and the Council has a very long way to go."
