Andrew Lansley - the Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Health - spoke at a Tottenham Conservatives dinner Wednesday night. He explained to Party members, including doctors and nurses, how the Party planned not just to spend more than Labour, but to insure real improvement in service through reform.
Mr Lansley said "The next Conservative Government will be committed to securing quality health care based on need, not ability to pay. We will achieve this by setting NHS professionals free from bureaucracy and controls, getting resources to front-line services and making the NHS responsive to patients. It is vital that patients themselves take more control over, and responsibility for, their health care. This reform will enable investment in our NHS to deliver, where Labour have failed."
The MP for South Cambridgeshire added that his visits to Whittington and North Middlesex Hospitals had helped in his understanding of the crucial health issues for Haringey.
