Local Conservatives send huge delegation to Blackpool conference to look to the future 01/10/03

A fair deal for everyone

Haringey Conservatives are sending more people to this year's party conference than is previous years. Fifteen Haringey members are this week heading to Blackpool. This, according to Deputy Chairman Justin Hinchcliffe, reflects the fact that more and more people are joining the local Conservatives.

This year's Party Conference will focus on our determination to make Britain a better place and give everyone a fair deal.

Justin Hinchcliffe explained:

"Conservatives' ambition is to deliver world-class public services and sustained prosperity. But that cannot be done with easy gestures. Instead, Britain needs a new style of Government altogether. Britain needs a Government ready to transform our public services the way the last Conservative Government transformed our economy.

Conservatives have already developed exciting policies to give everyone a fair deal.

The Labour Government had so much going for it: a buoyant economy, two huge majorities, and the trust and goodwill of British people. But they have squandered it all.

Taxes have risen sixty times in just six years, but our public services are still failing. A million people are stuck on NHS hospital waiting lists. Today,

· One in three 11-year-olds are unable to read, write and count properly.
· One in five trains run late.
· And since 1997, too many things have got worse, not better - Gun crime has risen by 80 per cent , Motorway congestion has doubled and personal pensions have halved.

At the Party Conference, Conservatives will be building on these policies, announcing new and exciting ideas, and taking another step on the road to the next General Election where we will offer the British people the alternative they deserve - a fair deal for everyone."
