Steve Norris: new guide will be a 'boost' for local businesses

The new Guide

Steve Norris, the Conservative candidate for the London Mayoralty, has given his backing to a new guide to the black community for visitors to London.

The guide, entitled Experience Black London, provides a taste of the black community, with an extensive listing of Haringey-based events, restaurants, shops, clubs and bars.

He joined the author, Nana Ocran and the publisher, the London Small Business Growth Initiative, at a launch party together with other groups and individuals involved in researching the heritage of Londons black community.

Steve Norris believes that the initiative is vital for London: One of the things that makes London the most exciting and vibrant city in the world is its huge cultural and ethnic diversity. Over 140 different languages are spoken in Haringey alone. But London is not just the parks and palaces in the centre, there are things to attract tourists in every one of the 33 boroughs. One of the things that makes London so unique is the vibrant appeal of the different ethnic communities.

In the past, too little has been done to highlight the attractions of the rest of London. That is why I am delighted to support this initiative - it's really wonderful to see.
