Pelican crossing on its ways thanks to Conservatives

The elderly will be able to cross...Local ActionLocal Action

As reported in our most recent press release dated 22 June 2003, local
Conservatives have been making good progress in their long-running campaign
2001 to have a pelican crossing installed at the dangerous junction of the
Roundway and Great Cambridge Road, White Hart Lane.

When we issued our last update TfL had received the consultants' report and
local residents were awaiting their conclusions with bated breath. We are,
therefore, pleased to be able to report that the consultants have vindicated
the local Conservatives' campaign and have now recommended the installation
of a pelican crossing at the junction (+ elsewhere around the roundabout
complex).

Conservatives have welcomed the findings but have written to TfL expressing
their concern at the long lead-time suggested for implementation of the
consultants' recommendations and urging the scheme's acceleration.

Commenting on the news, Peter Forrest, Conservative GLA Candidate for
Enfield-Haringey and who has been spearheading the campaign, said:

"This is exceeding good news for local residents. It is also gratifying that
local Conservatives' continuing efforts have paid off.

Now we have to persuade TfL to accelerate their plans so that this
much-needed pelican crossing is introduced as soon as possible. We have
already challenged TfL to look again at the timing of their plans".
