Peter Forrest, the Conservative GLA Candidate for Enfield-Haringey in 2004, has issued a sharply worded rebuke to Labour's current incumbent over her £4,484.92 taxi bill in 2002-03.
Ms Gavron had by far the highest taxi bill of any member of the GLA and had declined the use of a free bus & Tube pass.
Ms Gavron was a leading Haringey Councillor at the time co-GLA Member Lord [Toby] Harris ran up a Council taxi bill of over £14,000 and was herself the focus of criticism for drawing £1,000+ per meeting in expenses because of a desultory attendance record.
Commented Peter Forrest:
"It would appear that Nicky Gavron has learnt nothing from her time on Haringey. This huge taxi bill is an insult to taxpayers.
As Deputy Mayor, she and Mayor Livingstone have constantly pressed the case for using public transport but she has failed to set an example. She should have accepted the pass for free bus & Tube travel and declined the one for Computer Cab, not the other way around".
