Councillor Uma Fernandes, the Conservatives' parliamentary candidate for
Tottenham in 2001, has been selected for the Brent East by-election after
Labour MP Paul Daisley lost a long battle with cancer a few months ago.
Commenting on Uma's success, Justin Hinchcliffe, Deputy Chairman of
Tottenham Conservative and Uma's Campaign Manager in 2001, said:
"I congratulate Uma on her success and wish her the very best of luck. Brent
East is very similar to Tottenham, so that will be an advantage for her. Uma
came from third to second place at the last election - pushing the LibDems
into third place and re-gaining second place for the Conservatives. We'll be
sending our campaign team over to give her a hand and look forward to Uma
becoming Brent East's next MP."
ENDS.
