Haringey Council still failing - Audit Commission

The independent Audit Commission, the Government's official watchdog' for local authorities, has slammed Labour Haringey on its consultation methods, customer satisfaction and waiting times. The criticism is well documented in the Commission's latest report on Haringey's e-government, customer care, complaints management and communications inspection.

Haringey Council was given a one star rating overall by the Commission's report. The Audit Commission also said that some areas have shown improvements but the underlying picture was not a good one for Labour, which has controlled Haringey Council for over three decades. Haringey Conservatives are extremely concerned about the dissatisfaction felt by local residents towards the Council.

The Chairman of Tottenham Conservatives, Lydia Rivlin, said:

"Every year our Council Tax bills go up, but services remain poor. Even before the Audit Commission's report, Labour councillors were admitting that Haringey is badly-run and fails to deliver and that consultation processes are a sham. The report backs up our argument. Only the Conservatives are willing to point out what is going wrong - Haringey's LibDem opposition has made no impact -- good or bad -- and is weak and ineffective by pretending that everything's fine."
