Tory quartet to contest London Assembly in 2003

Haringey Conservatives now have 4 of their leading activists contesting the London Assembly elections in 2004 following the success yesterday of Lydia Rivlin, Tony Cox and Darshan Suri in winning places on the London Party's Proportional Representation GLA Top-Up List. They join Peter Forrest who was recently re-adopted as the Conservative candidate for the Enfield-Haringey GLA seat, seen as London's most marginal Assembly constituency.

Lydia Rivlin, who lives in Muswell Hill, stood as a candidate in Fortis Green Ward in May 2002 and is currently active in Tottenham's Harringay Ward. Tony Cox stood in White Hart Lane last May and in January this year, as the candidate in the Tottenham Hale by-election, he doubled the Conservative share of the vote on the back of an 11% swing from Labour to the Conservatives. Dr. Darshan Suri MBE is a GP in St. Paul's Road N17 and contested Tottenham's West Green Ward in May 2002.

Said Peter Forrest:

"I am delighted at Lydia's, Tony's and Darshan's success. Their selection, by Constituency Chairman drawn from across London, is wider recognition of their energy and commitment.

Together, we make an excellent team of candidates for Enfield-Haringey and Londoners as a whole."
